Week Ending 8/6

Sorry, a little late posting here... Sunday was a Down day and I kind of lost track of Monday.

Last week was a bit odd, in that it both was and was not a good week. I've been having pretty good energy most days, but when I crash I've been crashing really hard. That makes it frustrating because no matter how good the Up times might be, the Down times are bad enough to overshadow it. To sum up - brain fog sucks.

Still, on the plus side I managed to get a new SimLit story started. Wyrd Tales: Bad Moon Rising will be the first "short(er) story" set in the same world as my Wyrd Girls story, but focusing on other characters. Unfortunately, my computer and the EA App which I need to run the Sims are still not getting along well. At this point, I'm pretty convinced it's either a problem with the EA App or the gods are just messing with me. :)

Not much else to report, as I've already posted my review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 - review

I'll start off by saying - I didn't like it. I don't know that that's entirely it's fault.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 suffers from trying to deal with the burdens passed to it by the grievous and unforgiveable mistakes of Avengers Infinity War/Endgame. A fair amount of the movie has to deal with the whole Gamora-isn't-Gamora-anymore problem, and that takes up time from other things.

We'll never know if that screen time could have been dedicated to turning the Adam Warlock subplot into an actual subplot. As it stands, he's just this gold skinned, superpowered disaster who shows up, creates havoc and then disappears long enough for you to forget he's even in this movie until he shows up again and creates more havoc. The tornados in Twister are more developed characters.

The actual story - delving Rocket's backstory - into basically an emotionally manipulative indictment of animal testing. The villain is probably one of the few totally irredeemably evil villains of modern cinema. Unfortunately, our "heroes" don't actually appear to care about him, or about the people he's hurting... at least not until the very end of the movie.

... and about our heroes. The once cocky, goofy and fun Starlord spends most of the time moping. Drax has been reduced to a punchline (I blame Vol 2 for that). Nebula and Mantis, despite a good efforts, never seem to really work as part of the group... maybe because we never really got a chance to see them become fully fledged parts of the group. We're just expected to believe they are. Rocket is the only one who remains Rocket and shows consistent growth across the three movies. Well, and Groot. Groot is still Groot but that fact that I forgot him should tell you something.

It's implied (actually it's said outright) that this was always Rocket's story. I don't think that's strictly true, but his was the only story that remains true to itself. Unfortunately, Rocket spends most of the movie unconscious, so the fact that his is the only story worth a damn doesn't save the movie.

I think, among the many mistakes of this movie, the biggest was actually the end credits. Not the mid and post credit scenes, those were ok, but the credits themselves. A montage of pictures from the first two Guardians movies served only to highlight how much better the first movie was.

Yeah, I didn't like it. I think I've said before that the MCU movies are now suffering under the weight of the MCU. This one certainly does.

Week Ending 7/30

 Well, that sucked...

Have I gone good day/bad day to good week/bad week? Because the week before was pretty darn good and this week was crap. No energy whatsoever and my Sims game crashed and burned. I'm still not entirely sure it's working again.

Other than that... no really, there is no other than that. This was just a rotten week.

Next week will be better.

Week Ending 7/23/23

Good week, rotten Sunday. Is two weeks in a row enough to make a trend? Probably not.

My big news is I managed to get a lot of painting in... so I'm going to show off a little.

I call her Angrboda, Warqueen of the Riven Hills. The mini is a Darkoath Warqueen.

The Godspeaker and her Godsworn bodyguard. The mini's are the Godsworn Hunt.

These guys are clearly nice, civilized folk surveying land for a new settlement out in the wilds... the wilds that full of barbarians, monsters and worse... (the guy on the right gets it).

Clearly, the wilds can be a dangerous place...

So, yeah, that's pretty much what I did with my week. It was fun.

Week Ending 7/16

So, other than yesterday, last week was pretty good. I had decent energy just about all week. I mostly binge watched early seasons of Bones. I got the last chapters of Wyrd Girls - College Years posted. I painted some minis. I felt pretty good... good enough to once again struggle with the inherent frustration of having more ambition than energy... but all in all it was a good week.

Yesterday, I crashed hard... but on the good day/bad day scale, 5 good days to 1 bad day is a damn good balance.

Week Ending 7/9

 Pretty good week, looking back.

I've had a couple of odd days, where I woke up around 4:00AM and gave up trying to go back to sleep around 6:00. Just couldn't get my busy head to stop thinking. Still, managed to make a decent run of those days. I mean, If I crash around 10:00AM that seems early, but if I started my day around 5:30AM that's actually a longer than normal day.

I managed to finish writing the drafts for my upcoming chapters of Wyrd Girls, rounding out the Wyrd Girls College Years storyline. Those will go up on the story blog Monday - Friday next week. I'm excited to release those and see what my readers think (both of them... but hey I'll take what I can get).

I also managed to get in a couple of Age of Sigmar games and did some painting. Nothing finished to show off, but some exciting ideas.

I think, really, that my biggest struggle this week is that, while I have a little more energy than usual, I've had a lot more ambition. I wanted to write. I wanted to paint. I wanted to play Age of Sigmar. I wanted to work on my gaming stuff. I wanted to... Well, the list goes on. My ambitions far outstripped my ability and managing the frustration that comes with that is a skill I'm still working on.

On last funny thing... I got a very excited call from my lawyer. He didn't actually say the words "Holy shit, we won!" but the message come through loud and clear. Of course, I'd emailed him to tell him when I got the letter... but, like me, he didn't really believe it until he got a letter himself. He was thrilled. I still owe him a positive Google review... which I will absolutely and unhesitatingly provide him. If you're in southern Indiana of the Louisville Kentucky area and looking for a good disability lawyer, let me know and I'll give you his particulars.

Well, that's my excitment for the week.

Onward.

Week Ending 7/2

Well, other than the excitement from earlier in the week, this has been a pretty quiet one. Mostly just recovering from last week's trip.

OK, I'll be honest, it's been frustrating. Yesterday, I did nothing. Well, I called my mom and I watched a disappointing live stream from Games Workshop, but I didn't get to work on any of my stuff. (I blame Games Workshop.) I spent the rest of the day in bed, fading in and out.

I still do nothing very poorly. It's a skill I need to work on.

Looking at the numbers, it's actually been a pretty normal week... which means I also need to do a better job not overdoing it, because after the week before, I need to be resting a lot more.

I'll work on that.
